Did you know not all cinnamon is created equal?

There are two kinds of cinnamon, cassia and Ceylon.

You probably have cassia cinnamon in your cupboard right now. This is considered lower quality cinnamon, and Ceylon cinnamon is “true cinnamon”. (1) The issue is that 90% of the cinnamon found in the grocery stores is cassia cinnamon. (2) Cassia cinnamon contains a high amount of coumarin which is a flavouring substance that can be toxic. (3) Large quantities of coumarin, especially when used regularly, can cause health issues such as liver damage. (4)

I highly recommend using Ceylon cinnamon if you consume cinnamon on a regular basis. Ceylon cinnamon also has amazing health benefits:

Anti-clotting (5)
Anti-inflammatory
Antioxidant (6)
Antibacterial and antifungal (candida) (7)
Regulates blood sugar (8)

Ceylon cinnamon also has a sweeter taste than cassia cinnamon and that’s why it is perfect for this low-sugar treat!

Ceylon cinnamon can be hard to source but I have found an amazing brand for you guys! Root Alive carries Ceylon cinnamon and it is the real deal!
